Tutor Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 04/09/2026
These Terms & Conditions apply to tutors using The Centre for Education & Coaching (“The CEC”) platform.
By applying to join The CEC, creating or maintaining a tutor profile, or accepting bookings through the platform, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.
1. About The CEC
The Centre for Education & Coaching (“The CEC”) is a trading name of Collins Coaching and Consultancy Ltd, registered in England and Wales (Company No. 12294467).
The CEC operates an online platform connecting tutors with parents and students seeking online tuition.
The CEC facilitates tutor profiles, availability, bookings and payments but does not employ tutors or itself provide the tuition delivered by tutors through the platform.
2. Tutor Status
Tutors using The CEC operate as independent contractors and are not employees, workers, agents or representatives of The CEC.
Tutors are responsible for:
-
their own tax and National Insurance obligations
-
maintaining any insurance appropriate to their tutoring activities
-
complying with relevant legal, regulatory and professional requirements
-
maintaining any registrations, qualifications or permissions required for the services they provide
The CEC does not provide tutors with employment benefits.
3. Tutor Applications and Approval
All tutors must complete The CEC's application and approval process before tutoring through the platform.
The CEC reserves the right to approve or reject an application at its discretion and may request additional information or evidence where reasonably required.
Approval to join The CEC does not guarantee any minimum number of enquiries, consultations, bookings, students or income.
4. Tutor Profiles
Tutors are responsible for ensuring that information supplied for their profile is accurate, current and not misleading.
This includes information relating to:
-
identity and experience
-
qualifications
-
subjects and levels offered
-
DBS status
-
lesson prices and durations
-
availability
-
free taster lessons
-
online lesson links
-
any other information displayed to families or used by the booking system
The CEC reviews tutor profiles before publication and may request amendments before approving a profile.
Tutors may update individual sections of their profile when required. Changes made to an approved profile must be submitted for approval before the updated information is published.
The CEC may edit formatting, request changes, withhold approval, hide or remove profiles that are incomplete, inaccurate, misleading, inactive or do not meet the standards expected of tutors using the platform.
5. DBS and Safeguarding
Where a tutor states that they hold a DBS certificate, they must ensure that the information they provide about it is accurate.
Tutors must provide appropriate evidence of their DBS status if requested by The CEC or parents.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, The CEC does not independently guarantee or continuously monitor the validity or current status of a tutor's DBS certificate.
Tutors are responsible for maintaining appropriate safeguarding practices when working with children and young people and must comply with applicable safeguarding requirements.
Any safeguarding concern arising from tuition arranged through The CEC should be reported promptly to The CEC and, where appropriate, to the relevant safeguarding or statutory authority.
6. Tutor Conduct
Tutors must act professionally and respectfully when communicating with and teaching parents and students introduced through The CEC.
Tutors are responsible for:
-
attending confirmed sessions punctually
-
delivering tuition with reasonable care and skill
-
communicating appropriately with parents and students
-
maintaining professional boundaries
-
providing a safe and appropriate online learning environment
-
keeping their CEC availability accurate
-
managing changes to bookings through the CEC platform
The CEC may suspend or remove a tutor where conduct raises concerns about professionalism, safeguarding, platform integrity or the welfare of a student.
7. Online Lesson Link
Tutors must provide a suitable reusable online meeting link for lessons delivered through The CEC.
Tutors are responsible for ensuring that:
-
the link remains active and accessible
-
it is suitable for repeated use for CEC lessons
-
appropriate waiting-room or lobby controls are enabled
-
students cannot enter another student's lesson without being admitted by the tutor
-
any change to the lesson link is promptly updated on the tutor's CEC profile
Tutors must take reasonable steps to protect the privacy and security of online tuition sessions.
8. Availability and Bookings
Tutors are responsible for keeping their availability accurate and should only make times available that they are genuinely able to teach.
Parents may book lessons from the availability displayed through the CEC booking system.
A paid lesson is confirmed once the booking and required payment have been successfully completed.
Free consultations and free taster lessons do not require payment but are treated as confirmed bookings once booked through the platform.
Tutors should regularly check the Bookings section of their Tutor Dashboard and any booking notifications sent by The CEC.
The CEC does not guarantee that making availability available will result in bookings.
9. Free Consultations and Taster Lessons
All tutors must make themselves available for parents to book a free consultation through The CEC.
A free consultation is intended to allow the tutor and parent to discuss the student's needs, the tutor's approach and whether tuition may be a suitable fit. It is not intended to be a full tuition session.
Tutors may also choose to offer a free taster lesson. Where offered, this will be shown on the tutor's profile.
No payment is taken for a free consultation or free taster lesson.
Free sessions must not be used to move a family introduced through The CEC into a private tutoring arrangement designed to avoid CEC commission.
10. Lesson Prices and CEC Commission
Tutors set the prices displayed for the lesson options they offer through their CEC profile.
The price shown is the amount the parent pays for the lesson.
The CEC charges a commission of 20% of the lesson price for paid lessons booked through the platform.
The tutor receives 80% of the lesson price, subject to any refund, reversal or other adjustment properly arising from the booking.
For example, where a lesson costs £45:
Parent pays: £45
CEC commission: £9
Tutor share: £36
The CEC bears the standard Stripe payment-processing costs associated with the parent transaction. These are not deducted from the tutor's 80% share as an additional card-processing charge.
11. Stripe Connect
The CEC uses Stripe Connect to process payments and tutor payouts.
Maintaining a supported and fully operational Stripe Connect account is a mandatory requirement for accepting paid tuition through The CEC.
Tutors are responsible for:
-
completing Stripe's onboarding and verification requirements
-
providing Stripe with accurate information
-
maintaining valid bank details with Stripe
-
responding to requests from Stripe for additional or updated information
-
ensuring that their Stripe account remains capable of receiving CEC payments and payouts
Stripe controls its own onboarding, verification and account requirements. The CEC cannot override Stripe's eligibility decisions or complete Stripe verification on a tutor's behalf.
Stripe availability varies internationally. Tutors are responsible for ensuring that they are able to establish and maintain the Stripe account required to use The CEC.
Where Stripe Connect is not supported for a tutor's circumstances or country, or the tutor cannot successfully complete Stripe's requirements, there is no alternative CEC payment or payout route and the tutor will not be able to accept paid tuition through the platform.
12. Tutor Payouts
The tutor's 80% share of a successful lesson payment is allocated to their connected Stripe account.
The CEC processes tutor payouts fortnightly on a Friday.
The Payments section of the Tutor Dashboard displays the relevant payout information, including the scheduled payout date.
Only funds Stripe identifies as available for payout at the time a CEC payout is processed can be included. Payments that remain pending will be eligible for a later payout once they become available.
The date The CEC initiates a payout is not a guarantee of the date funds will arrive in the tutor's bank account. Subsequent processing and bank-transfer times are controlled by Stripe and the relevant financial institutions.
Tutors should contact Stripe directly regarding account verification, bank details or Stripe-controlled payout processing.
13. Rescheduling
Both tutors and parents can initiate rescheduling through The CEC.
Where a tutor requests a reschedule, the tutor proposes an alternative date and time. The booking is not moved until the parent accepts the proposed change.
Where a parent reschedules, the parent selects a new lesson time from the tutor's available times. Tutor approval is not required because the parent can only select availability the tutor has already made available.
Tutors are therefore responsible for ensuring their displayed availability remains accurate.
Rescheduling an existing paid lesson does not require a new payment. The original payment remains associated with the rescheduled booking.
14. Cancellations and Refunds
Where a tutor cancels a paid lesson, the parent is entitled to a full refund.
Any tutor share associated with the refunded lesson will be reversed or otherwise deducted from the tutor's Stripe balance as appropriate.
Where a parent cancels a lesson, the refund entitlement is governed by the Parent Terms & Conditions and the cancellation policy applicable to the booking.
Free consultations and free taster lessons may be cancelled without a payment or refund being required.
Tutors should give families as much notice as reasonably possible when cancelling a session.
15. Payments Outside The CEC and Non-Circumvention
Families introduced to tutors through The CEC must book and pay for their tuition through the CEC platform.
Tutors must not:
-
ask or encourage a CEC parent to pay them directly
-
use bank transfer, cash, PayPal or another payment method to avoid CEC commission
-
ask a parent to cancel a CEC booking in order to arrange the same tuition privately
-
use contact information obtained through The CEC to circumvent the platform
-
solicit or encourage families introduced through The CEC to enter into private tutoring arrangements for the purpose of avoiding CEC fees
This restriction applies while the tutor is using The CEC and for six months following the tutor's last interaction with a client introduced through The CEC.
Where circumvention is identified, The CEC may suspend or terminate the tutor's account, remove their profile or platform access and seek recovery of commission or other fees reasonably lost as a result.
16. Tutor Accounts and Platform Access
Tutors are responsible for maintaining the security of their CEC account and should not allow another person to use their login credentials.
Tutors should ensure that the email address associated with their account remains current and accessible.
The CEC may suspend or restrict access where reasonably necessary for security, safeguarding, payment, compliance or platform-management reasons.
17. Suspension and Removal
The CEC reserves the right to suspend, hide or remove a tutor profile or terminate access to the platform where reasonably necessary.
This may include circumstances involving:
-
safeguarding or professional-conduct concerns
-
inaccurate or misleading profile information
-
repeated failure to attend confirmed bookings
-
circumvention of the CEC platform
-
failure to maintain required Stripe capability
-
misuse of the platform
-
material breach of these Terms & Conditions
Where appropriate, The CEC may first contact the tutor and provide an opportunity to resolve the issue.
18. Data and Privacy
Personal information is handled in accordance with The CEC's Privacy Policy.
Tutors must use personal information obtained about parents and students only for legitimate purposes connected with providing tuition and must handle that information appropriately and securely.
Contact information or other personal data obtained through The CEC must not be sold, shared improperly or used for unrelated marketing without an appropriate lawful basis.
Payment and bank information supplied directly to Stripe is managed by Stripe under its own privacy and security arrangements.
19. The CEC's Role and Liability
The CEC provides the platform through which tutors and families can connect, book and manage tuition.
Tutors remain responsible for the tuition they provide, including its content, quality, suitability and delivery.
To the extent permitted by law, The CEC is not responsible for:
-
a particular educational result or outcome
-
acts or omissions of an independent tutor or parent
-
internet, video-platform or third-party service interruptions outside The CEC's reasonable control
-
Stripe or banking delays outside The CEC's reasonable control
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
20. Changes to These Terms
The CEC may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time, including where necessary to reflect changes to the platform, payment arrangements, legal requirements or CEC services.
Where changes materially affect tutors' rights or obligations, The CEC will provide reasonable notice where appropriate.
Continued use of the platform following the effective date of updated Terms will constitute acceptance where permitted by law.
21. Contact
Questions about CEC bookings, commission, CEC-initiated payouts, your Tutor Dashboard or these Terms & Conditions should be directed to The CEC.
