How to find an online tutor for your child
The CEC makes it easier to find online one-to-one tuition for your child. Compare tutors in Maths, English, Science and 11+ by subject, level, experience and price. Every tutor offers a free consultation, and many offer free taster lessons.
Getting Started
Four simple steps to your child's first lesson
1. Find a tutor
Search by subject or level. Compare each profile's experience, availability, lesson duration, price and DBS information.
2. Book a free consultation
Every tutor offers a free online conversation to discuss your child's needs and answer your questions.
3. Try a taster
Most tutors offer a free taster lesson so your child can experience their teaching style. It is 30 minutes long and completely optional.
4. Book a paid lesson
Choose a date and time, and then pay securely online. Your booking details and lesson link will arrive by email after booking.
Before you book
Get to know the tutor before you decide
Free consultation
Every tutor offers a free online consultation. Talk about your child's needs, ask questions and find out how the tutor works. It is a conversation, not a lesson, and there is no obligation to book.
Free taster lesson
Some tutors offer a free taster lesson so your child can experience their teaching approach. Look for the 'Free Taster Available' badge on the profiles of tutors who offer this. A taster lesson is completely optional.
Booking your lesson
How to booking an online tutoring lesson
1. Choose your lesson
From the tutor's profile, select 'Book a lesson' and then choose tuition level. Check the lesson duration and price.
2. Select a time
Choose an available date and time, then provide the parent and student details. The lesson link will be emailed to the parent.
3. Pay and get confirmation
Pay securely online. Once payment succeeds, your lesson is confirmed. Your confirmation email will include the online lesson link.
The price shown during booking is the price you pay. There is no separate finder's fee.
After booking
Your lesson is booked - what happens next?
How does my child join the online lesson?
Your booking email includes the tutor's online lesson link. At the scheduled time, open the link and wait for the tutor to admit your child. Tutors use a waiting room or lobby.
Can I reschedule lesson?
Use the Manage My Booking link in your booking email. If you reschedule more than 24 hours before the lesson, you can choose another available time with the tutor without making another payment.
What if I need to cancel?
If you cancel a paid lesson more than 24 hours before it begins you will receive a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours are covered in our Parent Terms & Conditions.
Choosing with confidence
Clear information before you book
Tutor profiles show each tutor's subjects, levels, experience, approach to tuition, availability and prices. Where a tutor has stated a DBS certificate is available, this appears on their profile. You can ask them for more details during your free consultation.
The CEC reviews tutor applications and profiles before publication. Tutors are independent and provide the tuition themselves.
